Major Roadworks Set for Liverpool Queen’s Drive

Liverpool City Council has confirmed that essential road improvement works will commence on Queen’s Drive this March.

This is part of a city-wide commitment to upgrading key travel routes.

Liverpool City Council approved the use of funding from the Liverpool City Region’s Key Route Network Levelling Up Programme to move forward with the construction phase of this vital infrastructure project.

The works, to be delivered by Aureos Highways, involve a comprehensive programme to modernise the transport network.

This includes the full resurfacing of the carriageway, along with significant improvements to road drainage and pavements, between Dovedale Road and Mossley Hill Drive.

By addressing these structural issues now, the Council aims to create a safer environment for all road users while ensuring the long-term durability of the surface.

Queen’s Drive Construction Schedule and Travel Impact

Work is officially scheduled to begin on Monday, 23rd March and is expected to take approximately 18 weeks to finish.

The initial phase will involve several weeks of surveys and site investigations, which will necessitate lane closures and the installation of temporary traffic lights.

Once the main upgrade works begin, the project will require temporary road closures in one direction, with diversion routes put in place.

People travelling along Queen’s Drive are encouraged to plan their routes and allow additional time for their journeys while these essential repairs are carried out.

Although the works may cause short-term disruption, the finished project will result in a more resilient road surface that requires less frequent maintenance.

Residents and business owners who may be impacted by the construction are invited to attend a dedicated drop-in session closer to the time.

Staff will be available to share specific details and provide answers to any questions.

Official Statement on Liverpool Road Investment

Councillor Dan Barrington, Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity said:

“Over time, well-used roads through the city can become worn down, meaning they need regular repair work.

“To prevent this from being the case, we are carrying out a number of upgrades on Queen’s Drive, including resurfacing and drainage works.

“By tackling these now, we will create a safer environment for road users, while also improving traffic flow.

“The works form part of a much bigger commitment by the Council to improve the city’s key routes.”
