New Newton-le-Willows Police Station Handed Over to Merseyside Police

A major milestone has been reached in Newton-le-Willows as the town’s new police station has been formally handed over by Morris & Spottiswood to Merseyside Police and Emily Spurrell.
Delivered on time and within budget after a ten-month build, the purpose-built neighbourhood policing base replaces the former 1970s station, which had become outdated and no longer fit for operational needs.
Located 50 metres from the previous site at the junction of Market Street and Peel Street, within the Earlestown Conservation Area, the new building has been designed to reflect the town’s historic character, featuring a terraced-style frontage, double gable-ended roof and red-brown brickwork.
Investment strengthens neighbourhood policing in Newton-le-Willows

Merseyside’s Police Commissioner Emily Spurrell said:
“Today’s handover marks a significant moment for Newton le Willows and for neighbourhood policing across Merseyside.
“This building has been designed with the community at its heart; modern, accessible, and built to serve local people for generations.
“This is a great step forward for Newton-le-Willows and Earlestown and a clear demonstration of our commitment to community-focused policing, giving our officers a modern, central base in one of the busiest parts of the town, helping to improve visibility, engagement, and response times, while also providing a welcoming, accessible space for the public to speak to their local policing team.
“This new facility represents more than just bricks and mortar; it symbolises our unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our communities, and it is the physical evidence of our determination to ensure Merseyside Police is equipped to handle the challenges of policing today and into the future.
“I’m very proud that we are delivering on our promise to improve policing facilities across the region, ensuring our officers and staff have the tools, space and environment they need to do their jobs safely and effectively.
“With the construction phase now complete, we can look ahead to opening the station and welcoming the public very soon.”
The station will now undergo final preparations, including furniture installation and technical checks, before becoming fully operational in the coming weeks.
Facilities will include a General Enquiry Office, interview and meeting rooms, improved working conditions for officers and staff, and sustainable, energy-efficient technology supporting Merseyside Police’s Net Zero ambitions.
Leaders welcome investment in Earlestown community

Chief Constable Rob Carden said:
“Today is an exciting step towards the opening of the new station, when we will be able to officially welcome the public.
“The Newton-le-Willows station will help us continue to deliver neighbourhood policing to our communities, which is at the heart of all we do.
“The location will enable us to better engage with and respond to those who need us most and give the public more of an opportunity to speak to their local officers.
“Improving our facilities is also vital as we continue to meet the changing landscape of a modern police force. It will be up-to-date, sustainable and energy efficient, supporting both the working needs of our officers and staff, and Merseyside Police’s Net Zero ambitions.”

Cllr Trisha Long said:
“This new police station represents a real investment in the safety and well-being of residents in Newton le Willows and the wider area.
“It will provide a modern, accessible base for the local policing team and strengthen the partnership between officers and the community they serve.
“Today’s handover marks an exciting step forward in strengthening this community, and I’m confident this facility will make a meaningful difference to residents for many years to come.”
St Helens North MP David Baines added:
“The new police station is a major boost for Newton-le-Willows and Earlestown, giving local officers the base they need to be visible, responsive and rooted in the community. It’s a strong vote of confidence in our town and in neighbourhood policing.
“I’m particularly pleased to see the design reflect the character of the Earlestown Conservation Area while delivering the high-quality, sustainable infrastructure our town deserves.
“I look forward to seeing the station open its doors and continuing to work with partners to ensure residents across St Helens North feel safe, supported and heard.”
