Liverpool City Council to Invest £4m in Walton Breck Road Improvements Under Anfield Regeneration Programme

Liverpool City Council is preparing to invest almost £4 million in major improvements to Walton Breck Road, with a decision due at Cabinet on Tuesday, 24th February.
If approved, the scheme will deliver a package of highway upgrades designed to improve safety, accessibility and connectivity as part of the wider Anfield Regeneration Programme.
Councillor Nick Small, Cabinet Member for Growth and Economy, said:
“The Anfield Regeneration Programme is an ambitious long-term investment that will deliver real benefits for people living and working in the area.
“Alongside the improvements to Walton Breck Road, we’re developing a range of projects to make better use of local space, attract new businesses and increase the availability of affordable homes.
“We’ve listened closely to residents and businesses throughout this process, and we’re excited to move forward with plans that reflect their priorities and support Anfield’s continued growth.”
Highway improvements to strengthen Anfield community and connectivity
A report going before Cabinet recommends awarding a contract to deliver resurfaced carriageways and footways, upgraded pedestrian crossings and enhanced bus stop facilities.
Parking arrangements will also be reviewed in response to feedback from local residents and businesses.
The final design has been shaped in partnership with Merseytravel, Liverpool Football Club, emergency services and the local community, following consultation events held last year.
Residents’ feedback has directly influenced junction layouts, crossing locations, matchday traffic management and the proposed construction timetable to minimise disruption.
Walton Breck Road works scheduled to begin in May
Although the contract is expected to be awarded following Cabinet approval, the successful contractor cannot yet be named for procurement reasons.
Work is scheduled to begin in May, with advance notice provided for any road closures or diversions.
The improvements are expected to take approximately seven months to complete.
The investment forms part of the council’s ongoing commitment to delivering long-term regeneration in Anfield, supporting local businesses, improving public spaces and enhancing everyday travel for residents.
