Sefton Sixth Form College celebrates impressive A-level results

Students at Sefton Sixth Form College are celebrating after the college recorded a 97% A-level pass rate, with more than two-thirds of students achieving grades A* to C.

The Litherland-based college said this year’s results reflected the hard work, determination and commitment of students following two years of study.

The number of high grades was described as particularly strong, while several students made academic progress well beyond expectations. The college’s A-level value-added performance, which measures students’ progress, is also at its highest level since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Results day marks the end of two years of study for students at the college’s A-level campus, with many now preparing to progress to university, apprenticeships or employment.

A number of students have secured places at leading universities, including the University of Sheffield and Durham University, while others are moving on to degree-level apprenticeships and full-time jobs.

The latest results follow further recognition for Sefton Sixth Form College, which is one of only two sixth form colleges in Merseyside, excluding 16-19 academies, to hold an Outstanding Ofsted grade.

Deborah Faulkner, Campus Principal at Sefton Sixth Form College, said:

“A-level results day is always a special moment, and it has been fantastic to see the excitement and pride on our students’ faces as they celebrate their achievements. Whether they are progressing to university, moving into employment or taking their next steps in another direction, we know they leave Sefton Sixth Form with the skills, confidence and ambition to succeed.

We have also had some brilliant success with our first cohort of Year 12 Further Mathematics students, who are now progressing onto their second year.

I would like to congratulate every one of our students and thank their families and our staff for the important role they have played in their success. We couldn’t be prouder of them.”

The college also ranks in the top 6% of further education colleges nationally for A-level progress, according to the information released by the college, achieving the distinction for a second consecutive year.

Mathilda Bardi, A-level Business, Computer Science and Mathematics student, said:

“I achieved three A*’s and I’m absolutely thrilled with my results. There were definitely times when A-levels felt overwhelming, but the support from my teachers at Sefton Sixth Form College really helped me stay focused. I’m so excited to be heading to university and starting the next chapter.”

Manu Bolivar Perez, A-level Business, Economics and Criminology student who achieved A*, A*, B, said:

“I genuinely didn’t expect to get these results, so I’m absolutely over the moon. I’ve worked really hard over the last two years and there were definitely moments when I thought I couldn’t do it, but my teachers were always there to help. I’m so glad I chose Sefton Sixth Form.”

Lucas McNamara achieved A*, A, A in A-level Economics, Business and Mathematics who is off to study Economics at the University of Liverpool said:

“I’ve worked towards this moment for the last two years and it feels amazing to finally see all that hard work pay off. Sefton Sixth Form has given me the knowledge and confidence to take the next step towards my future career, and I’m so excited to see where it takes me.”

Abdul Alkidra is another success story, gaining a place at the prestigious Hull York Medical School. He said:

“Wow, I am delighted with my results and getting my place at Hull York. I have had a fantastic few years at Sefton Sixth Form College and I want to thank all my tutors for the support they have shown me. I am looking forward to celebrating and starting my next chapter at university; becoming a doctor has been a lifelong dream.”
