Drivers warned of Queens Drive road closures as highway works continue

Drivers in Liverpool are being advised to plan ahead as temporary road closures are set to affect several sections of Queens Drive while essential highway improvement works are carried out.

Liverpool City Council says the closures are required to allow contractors to complete preventative surface treatment and road marking works safely and efficiently.

The works began on Monday, 3 August, with further closures scheduled for Monday, 10 August and from Tuesday, 11 August to Friday, 14 August.

Sections affected by the works include Queens Drive between Heywood Road and East Prescot Road northbound, and between Alder Road and Mill Lane northbound.

Closures will also affect both directions of Queens Drive between Townsend Avenue and Utting Avenue, and between Stanley Park Avenue North and Walton Hall Avenue.

The preventative treatment scheduled for Monday, 10 August must be carried out during the daytime because of the materials involved.

Road marking works taking place between Tuesday, 11 August and Friday, 14 August will instead be carried out overnight in an effort to minimise disruption along the busy route.

Liverpool City Council said the surface dressing treatment helps protect roads from wear and tear, extending the lifespan of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

Residents living close to the affected stretches are being advised that efforts will be made to keep disruption to a minimum, including ensuring machinery is switched off when it is not in use.

Pedestrian access will also be maintained wherever possible.

Drivers are being encouraged to follow signed diversions or use alternative routes while closures are in place.

Motorists have also been warned that loose aggregate may remain on the road temporarily following the surface treatment.

The council said this is a normal part of the process and advised drivers to reduce their speed and follow temporary road signs.

Surplus aggregate is due to be removed by a suction sweeper within 48 hours of the treatment being installed, with the road swept again within seven days.

Liverpool City Council thanked residents and road users for their patience while the improvement works are completed.
