Steve Rotheram’s response to the Chancellor’s Spring Statement

Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram has released a response to the Chancellor’s Spring Statement announced today.

Responding to the Chancellor’s Spring Statement, Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram said:

This Statement shows a government that’s serious about backing regions like ours to deliver – and I welcome that.

“These aren’t easy times, and the Chancellor’s had to make some tough choices. But protecting investment in housing, skills and infrastructure – the building blocks of a stronger economy – is the right call.

“In the Liverpool City Region, we’ve shown that when local areas are trusted to get on with the job, we deliver. With the right support, we can take that even further – creating good jobs, driving innovation and helping to grow the national economy from the bottom up.

“If the country is going to succeed, places like ours need to be part of the plan. Today’s Statement is a step in that direction and we’ll be working with government to deliver the growth that will help turn that ambition into action.”
